BIG-HITTING baseball hits the Coffs Coast tomorrow.
To celebrate hosting the New South Wales Country championships, a home-run derby will be held under lights on the Australian rules field at Coffs Coast Sports and Leisure Park, starting at 5.30pm.
Baseball correspondent Darren Bromell said the excitement-filled home-run derby would feature batters shaping up to belt pitchers out of the ball park.
"Each side will have 10 balls to face and the team that hits the most home runs gets the trophy and the $500 cash prize," he said.
"It's going to be really exciting and the pressure will be on right from the start.
"There will be plenty of music going, a barbecue, games and good times."
Entry fee is $30, which includes a free T-shirt.
Adding to the colour will be the mascots' race, with Splash the Dolphin from the Pet Porpoise Pool, the Eagle Boys' Eagle and Hog from Hogs Breath sprinting around the baseball diamond.
Sponsors will distribute lots of freebies and a portion of the funds raised will go to Camp Quality in Coffs Harbour.
"It's a fun way to set the scene for the carnival," Bromell said.
"The country championships will run for three days and we have 14 teams from all over the state heading into town to enjoy themselves," he said.
