A running Father's Day tradition
FITNESS has become a Father's Day tradition in the Swarbrick household.
For the past four years, Mike Swarbrick and his young family have taken part in the Coffs Harbour Running Festival.
Last year's festival also fell on Father's Day, which led to the event integrating itself into the family's celebrations for dad.
"Since the kids have been born we've been doing it," Mike said.
"It's a bit of a father's day tradition now, which is good,
"We usually do the walk with the kids and then we go out for lunch, we go out for breaky beforehand. It's a nice father's day."
Enjoying the day with his wife and kids, Isla, 4 and Oli, 2 emphasises for Mike why he cherishes fatherhood.
"It's lovely to have that unconditional love and to be able to spend time with them, it's a great time of life," Mike said.
"You don't really realise what it means (to be a dad) until you have children."
This Father's Day is particularly special for Mike. The English native will officially be an Aussie dad on Monday when he has his citizenship ceremony.
