Police call for recruits
IF you ever dreamed about being a police officer as a kid, now is your chance.
The NSW Police Force is calling on all interested people to start thinking seriously about pursuing a career in the force and, according to Coffs Harbour’s Constable James Salaun, there’s no better job around.
Posted in Coffs Harbour for the past four years, Constable Salaun said it was playing an active role in assisting society that drew him to the job.
“I really enjoy working among people and as a part of the community in different situations,” he said.
“Coffs is a really great place to work; it’s got a real family environment. I’m from Sydney originally and you notice the difference up here, I would say it’s a lot friendlier.
“You get the joys of country policing, so you live where you work but it’s also very busy.”
With a starting salary of $55,000 and six weeks annual leave, being a police officer is a well paid and secure job in these uncertain times.
There are also benefits including maternity, carer, sick and compassionate leave and the chance to advance through the ranks of frontline policing, just like Constable Salaun has done.
“There’s always something new happening, I’m getting involved in different things,” he said.
“Seeing the results of everyone’s efforts is the most rewarding thing, like positive outcome for victims of crime,” he said.
