A divine win: Saints crush Magpies

The Sawtell-Toormina Saints are into the grand finals after crushing the Port Macquarie Magpies today at C.ex International Stadium in Coffs Harbour.

It was a very disappointing day for the Magpies as they went down in a devastating defeat against the Saints losing 105 points to 35.

Coming into the game as hot favourites, the Saints played a strategic game and were consistently strong on the attack throughout the match with playing coach, Jim Angel kicking four goals for his side.

Jim said the match was a "fair reflection" of the team's talent and he's aiming to pick up the teams general fitness coming into the grand final.

"I think the talent is there we just need to pick up on our fitness, we've got a couple of weeks to get on track so we'll be fine," he said.

Magpie's playing coach, Damon Munt was "pretty disappointed" with the result and said the contested ball was there but the last minutes of each quarter saw his team slip up.

Applying more pressure to the ball carrier is one of the key strategies Damon said the team are aiming to improve upon for next week.

The Magpie's will take on the Coffs Harbour Breakers in the preliminary final on Saturday August 15 at C.ex Stadium for their last attempt to play in the grand final.
