A brilliant bash!

ON Saturday afternoon I packed up my picnic and esky and headed down to the Coffs Harbour Showgrounds for the Bushfire Bash.

Nine local bands played throughout the afternoon which was enjoyed over a picnic and a glass of wine. The family atmosphere was shown when children started climbing trees and kicking balls.

Organisers and audiences enjoyed the afternoon of great local music. I'm only new on the local music scene around Coffs so I had no idea what to expect from any of the bands, although I was very pleasantly surprised by the three-piece ensemble that did a wonderful rendition of No Woman, No Cry.

One of my favourite songs and not an easy one to pull off without making audiences reach for earplugs.

Most of the afternoon was bright and sunny, but the trees around the stage at the back of the showgrounds provided great shade - a perfect spot for an afternoon of live music. Organiser Evan McMillan said the day “went very well”.
