A blockbuster birthday
CELEBRATING 20 years of great film in Coffs Harbour, Birch Carroll & Coyle are have a big week of classic films, special events and discounts to commemorate their big birthday milestone.
The party kicks off in style tonight with a Gala VIP night with champagne and nibbles on arrival followed by a screening of the 1995 blockbuster hit, Braveheart.
Alongside the Hollywood blockbusters, locally produced film Thirst will be shown in an encore screening on Thursday night.
Released in 2012, the Australian desert romance was written and directed by Robert Carter of Bellingen and produced by Coffs Coast locals Mark and Megan George.
Birch Carroll & Coyle general manager, Sue Amos, took time out to reminisce the cinema’s long history in the Coffs Coast.
“The first thing that comes to mind is some of the big films, we opened with Babe because that is one of the biggest films in Australian film and we’re going to be screening Babe over the weekend as well,” she said.
But Sue says it’s not just the movies that make the cinema’s rich history with many flocking to cinema carpark to cool off when it has flooded over the years.
In 2006, staff and patrons found themselves enjoying a fun-filled movie night after being stranded due to severe flooding.
“We just put a few extra films on and gave them lots of popcorn and we all sat around and watched movies and ate popcorn until the roads were clear so it was a lot of fun,” Sue said.
Like most good cinema buffs, the Birch Carroll and Coyle team are holding the community in suspense with birthday promotions and discounts to be revealed over the next few days.
