A big thank-you to volunteers
UNSUNG heroes have been honoured at a special ceremony.
The army of volunteers which help keep the city's community facilities operating, or offer their time and expertise on advisory groups, were thanked by Coffs Harbour Mayor Denise Knight at a function held at the Regional Gallery this week.
"I'm humbled every time I come across the many, many selfless heroes behind the sports, community and cultural facilities that we often take for granted," Cr Knight said.
"I never cease to be amazed when I find out just how many hours of their lives people are happy to give up. In some cases, when you add it up, it's literally years.
"So I'm delighted to have this opportunity to say thank you personally to the people who do so much for the whole Coffs Harbour community."
Community service awards to mark many years of service were presented to John Davis of Sportz Central (20 years) and Nicholas Timms (14 years) of the Eastern Dorrigo Showground and Community Hall Facility Management Committee.
Plaques were presented to: the Access Advisory committee, Bayldon Community Centre Facility Management committee, Coramba Community Hall Facility management committee, Cultural Reference Group, Eastern Dorrigo Showground & Community Hall Facility management committee, Multicultural Reference Group, Nana Glen Sport, Recreation & Equestrian Centre Facility management committee, Sportz Central advisory committee, Woolgoolga Community Village Facility management committee and the Yandarra Aboriginal Consultative committee.
