Lucky to survive a fall from the third floor
A 41-YEAR-OLD Coffs Harbour man is lucky to be alive after falling from his third floor apartment Wednesday night.
Just after 9pm Police and Ambulance officers were called to the apartment by neighbours who heard the man's impact on the concrete driveway.
The man received injuries to his back, neck, pelvis and legs in the fall but both Ambulance and Police are surprised he survived.
"The injuries are consistent with falliing feet first on to a hard surface," NSW Ambulance deputy operations manager Mick Mair said.
"The patient was lucky he did not suffer from head and chest injuries as they may have been unsurvivable."
The man was transported to the Coffs Harbour Health Campus and admitted to the intensive care unit.
Police Inspector Brendan Gorman said the man was alone at the San Francisco Avenue unit and had been drinking alcohol prior to the fall.
He said luck had played a part in the man's survival.
"I would suggest you don't drink and take risks near balconies, a fall can kill - in this case he may be lucky enough that doesn't happen," Inspector Brendan Gorman said.
