UPDATE: Mackay Show ride safe, say Workplace Health & Safety
UPDATE 4.43pm: THE Magic Circus ride has been cleared as safe by Workplace Health & Safety Queensland following a brief investigation of yesterday's injury at Mackay Show.
In a statement it said: "WHSQ has made inquiries into an incident at the Mackay Show yesterday. A young female patron received a minor knee injury following an incident on a ride.
"WHSQ has cleared the ride and it will continue to operate."
UPDATE 11.53am: IT'S believed an 11-year-old girl's injury on the Magic Circus ride at Mackay Show yesterday may have been linked to a "pre-existing medical condition" and not the ride itself, Queensland Ambulance Service said.
According to a spokeswoman: "The ride was safe and appeared to have no structural problems".
But a spokesman for Workplace Health and Safety Queensland said initial enquiries were being made into the incident, which was attended by about 10 emergency services personnel from police, ambulance and fire and rescue about 3pm yesterday.
Show Whitsunday has been contacted for comment on whether the ride would be operating at Proserpine Showgrounds today or tomorrow.
But a Daily Mercury staff member spotted the Magic Circus ride at Mackay Showgrounds about 9am this morning.
UPDATE 10am: The 11-year-old girl who was injured at the Mackay Show was transported to the Mackay Base Hospital was assessed by and released yesterday afternoon.
A spokesman from Workplace Health Safety Queensland stated they are looking into the incident that occurred at the Mackay Show.
"We are sending an inspector to make some initial enquiries," he said.
"At this stage we are working with the Queensland Police Service and event organisers to find out how the incident occurred."
UPDATE, 5.05pm: AN 11-year-old girl has arrived at hospital with a minor knee injury following an incident on a ride at Mackay Show, said a Mackay Base Hospital spokeswoman.
The girl was in a stable condition on arrival at the hospital, the spokeswoman added.
A Daily Mercury reporter at the scene of the incident at the Magic Circus ride said about 10 emergency services personnel from police, ambulance and fire and rescue, were on scene at the ride this afternoon.
INITIAL: EARLY reports indicate a female teenager has suffered injuries at the Magic Circus ride at Mackay Show just before 3pm, according to Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS).
An ambulance service spokeswoman said paramedics were called about 3pm to Milton Street, Mackay Showground to attend to the incident, in which the person appears to have suffered a knee injury.
"(The) Ride has had a mechanical fault...or maybe she's had a fall...it's hard to know (all the details) at this stage, the spokeswoman said.
A Queensland Fire and Emergency Service spokesman said the person was not trapped, but said personnel were called about 3pm and now "assisting ambulance to extricate the person hurt from the ride".
"The extrication from the building is ongoing," he said.
