Turnbull blocks New Zealand's offer to help refugees

PRIME Minister Malcolm Turnbull has rejected New Zealand's offer to take 150 asylum seekers from the 900 Manus Island detainees waiting to learn their future, labelling it a "marketing opportunity" for people smugglers.

The Papua New Guinean and Australian governments are refusing to allow them to resettle permanently in either country.

Both governments are understood to still be receiving legal advice over the fate of the asylum seekers. On Tuesday, PNG's High Court found the centre breached the constitution.
