Major bushfire still burning through the Blue Mountains

NEW South Wales firefighters will continue to monitor a major fire that is burning in the Blue Mountains.

About 260 firefighters and eight water-bombing helicopters spent the weekend battling the fire in the Blaxland-Warrimoo area which threatened to get out of control.

No property has been damaged.

An emergency warning was issued on Friday when the fire took hold forcing authorities to close the main highway and train line through the Blue Mountains to allow firefighters to battle the blaze.

The NSW Rural Fire Service said on Sunday that while the fire had not been contained it no longer posed a threat.

There are currently 55 fires burning across the state, six of which are uncontained.
