Govt commission endorses Aussies bypassing geo-blockers

PEOPLE who use software to avoid geo-blockers on online content such as movies have been given a ringing endorsement by the Federal Government's Productivity Commission.

The commission released a report yesterday arguing that geo-dodging by avoiding geo-blockers did not breach copyright laws and should be made legal.

In the draft report on intellectual property issues, the commission found Australians got less digital service at higher cost than people in places such as the US.

The commission wrote that consumers should be given equal access to digital services at the same price as offered to consumers overseas.

It also urged the government against signing trade deals that support restrictions such as geo-blocking.
