95-year-old charged with 22 counts of child sexual assault

A 95-YEAR-OLD Nambucca Heads man has been charged with 22 counts of child sexual assault dating back to the 1960s.

The charges stem from investigations launched in May last year over the alleged sexual assault of four young girls.

Police say the man committed the first offence on a three-year-old girl in the Sydney suburb of Marsden Park in 1962.

They allege subsequent child sexual assaults continued on girls younger than 10 years old through to 1996.

The assaults allegedly happened in suburbs across Sydney, including Schofields and Cronulla, and across northern NSW in Lismore, Scotts Head and Bowraville.

Detectives went to the old man's Nambucca Heads home a fortnight ago and served him with a notice to attend Parramatta Local Court next Thursday.

He faces seven charges of committing an indecent act on a child under 16, 11 counts of carnal knowledge, one count of buggery and three counts of aggravated indecent assault.

Police have called on anyone with further information to contact authorities.
