Girl, 6, drowns at Leslie Dam

A SIX-YEAR-OLD girl has died after being pulled from the water at Leslie Dam and rushed to Warwick Hospital this evening.

A Queensland Ambulance Services spokesman said the girl was flown by RACQ CareFlight to Warwick Hospital in a "serious condition".

The Daily News has now confirmed reports that the little girl has tragically passed away in hospital.

A witness from a nearby tourist park, who was one of the first on the scene, was notified by a frantic phone call from a member of the public.

"I just jumped straight on the phone to 000 and raced down to the dam," he said.

"By the time I got there a guy was already giving her CPR. I tried to tilt her head back and get her airways clear."

Witnesses worked on the girl for 15 minutes before police and ambulances crews arrived on the scene and took over.

"I tried to help console the mother," the witness said.

"Other family members were consoling the father."

It is understood the CareFlight helicopter was unable to land at Leslie Dam, so ambulance crews escorted by police raced back to the Warwick Hospital.

The girl is believed to have been out on the dam with her family enjoying a day out.
