A LEADING online travel site is on the hunt to uncover the most uniquely Australian hotspots and travel experiences.

Wotif is hosting the Uniquely Aussie Awards, with a nation-wide search asking people to nominate the name and location of their favourite destination, experience or local business across six categories.

Whether you're a sausage roll connoisseur or in search of Australia's top swimming spot, Wotif wants uncover some of the country's best kept local experiences - and those that typify the Aussie road trip.

The most popular nominations will be crowned in the Uniquely Aussie Awards on February 20, inspiring travellers to explore those towns and businesses that offer best-in-class experiences.

The Sunshine Coast has many unique locations and could sure give other cities around Australia a run for their money.

The six categories are the best main street, best fish and chips, best swimming spot, best sausage roll, best roadside pit stop and best regional Chinese restaurant.

Here is why the Sunshine Coast should be considered for all six categories in the Uniquely Aussie Awards.

But we can't go past our hinterland treasure at Maleny. Maple St comes alive every weekend, with locals and tourists visiting the community for its array of unique eateries, boutiques and just to explore the town.

Foodies of the Sunshine Coast voted late last year, nominating their favourite dish and chip destinations across the region.

While there were hundreds of nominations, one takeaway restaurant was clearly a crowd favourite.

59 Fish at Maroochydore has a lot of happy customers all over the Coast, if not the country.

"59 Fish is the BEST, scrumptious food I have ever come across," Judith Paterson wrote on Facebook.

"The food is great, the service greater and the owners the greatest."

Best swimming spot

Noosa's iconic fairy pools recently came in at number four in travel specialist Big 7's list of most popular locations on social media.

Thousands of beach-goers head to the hidden rock pools every week to bask in the sun in pristine waters, and not without snapping an Insta-worthy photo.

While there are a lot of other beautiful swimming spots on the Coast, we can't go past this top spot.

The sausage roll is basically a staple item for any Aussie meat-lover, and there's plenty of delicious options on the Coast.

Van Wegans bakery at Mooloolaba would have to take the cake, with its iconic sausage roll made with seasoned beef and pink Himalayan salt flakes.

There's also a delicious pork, fennel and apple variety and a crunchy cheesy option.

For veggie-lovers, you can't go past Soul Kitchen Bakery at Maroochydore. The fully-vegan store has plenty of savoury options that will turn even the most carnivorous Aussie.

If you're after a delicious Chinese feed, you can't go past Maroochy Chinese Restaurant and Takeaway.

The little restaurant on First Ave is definitely a favourite, with foodies crowding the popular joint almost every night of the week.

Visitors rave about the Thai chicken noosles, Mongolian lam and the many veggie stir fries.
