Court hears 45 sex charges

SEVEN men and one woman faced a total of 45 sexual assault and similar charges when their matters were mentioned during sittings of the Local and District courts in Grafton yesterday.

Many of the alleged offenders cannot be identified in order to protect the identity of victims, but two were alleged to have been involved in a bashing and sexual assault in Bent Street, South Grafton, last month.

One man faced a total of 25 charges, 19 of them sexual related.

They included five counts of aggravated sexual assault of a person under the age of 16, five counts of aggravated sexual intercourse of a person aged between 10 and 14, eight counts of sexual intercourse without consent, one of committing an act of indecency with a person aged 16 years or over and assault charges.

Another man was charged with aggravated sexual assault and inflicting grievous bodily harm, contravening an apprehended violence order, destroying property and aggravated enter dwelling.

A total of 13 sexual assault-related charges against four people were mentioned on the first day of district court sittings.
