$300,000 for Dorrigo MPS

FOR the Dorrigo Multipurpose Service (MPS) it was the very best of birthday gifts.

During celebrations on Saturday to mark the 75th birthday of the MPS, the Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Health, Coffs Harbour-based MLC Melinda Pavey, announced funding of $300,000 to enhance the services provided at the facility.

"The funding will be used to extend and upgrade the Dorrigo MPS Community Health Building and enhance the capacity to deliver community and allied health services such as community nursing, diabetes education and immunisation," Ms Pavey said.

"The extension will also provide dedicated space to enable general practitioners to be located at Dorrigo MPS.

"The project is a further initiative of the NSW Rural Health Plan, to provide better health care to people living in rural NSW and services closer to home."

The funding announcement was warmly welcomed by the chief executive of the Mid North Coast Local Health District, (MNCLHD) Stewart Dowrick, who said that facilities like the Dorrigo MPS continue to play a vital role in ensuring the delivery of health services to rural communities across the Mid North Coast.

"This funding will not only increase the capacity of existing services but will also give clinicians the opportunity to offer additional services that will provide long-term health benefits to the community," Mr Dowrick said.

Ms Pavey added that the announcement confirmed the government's ongoing commitment to the improvement of regional and rural health facilities across NSW.
