$23m project means new jobs

A NEW $23 million retail development to be announced this morning will bring 170 jobs with it to the Coffs Harbour CBD.

The new venture will be a redevelopment of the former 'The Warehouse' site in Harbour Drive, opposite Brelsford Park.

The site is located on the corner of Earl Street and the new project is the culmination of more than two years of planning by the owners of the site, a syndicate of local businessmen.

Rodger Pryce, the managing director of Coffs Harbour development firm, Canzon, said the multi-million dollar development would provide a much-needed boost to the local economy.

Mr Pryce said about 50 of those jobs would be involved in construction, with 120 jobs in the development when completed. An earlier plan for redevelopment was for a medical centre but Mr Pryce said they had been unable to interest a large enough number of local doctors for that plan to proceed.

The plan for a large retail project is a return to a previous use for the site, which was originally a supermarket.
