Sixteen-year-old saves swimmers

CEEJAY Strathern's bravery averted disaster at Diggers Beach last week.

The Coffs Harbour 16-year-old, a keen surfer since he was a youngster, was coming out of the water at the southern end of the beach on Friday when a couple of frantic people ran up to him.

They told him four of their friends were caught in a rip at the other end of the beach.

Ceejay sprinted up the sand and jumped into the water, by which time one of the group - all from Avalon in Sydney - was making his way back to shore.

“I paddled out to the other three and one guy was just about to sink,” Ceejay said. “They all got on my board. One guy who was still all right helped me bring them back in.”

Two other surfboard riders helped in the rescue.
