13-year-old boy saves his family from house fire

A Melbourne boy has been congratulated for saving his family from what could have been a devastating house fire in the city's north-east.

The 13 year old boy reportedly woke his two elder siblings and parents after their home caught fire about 4.30am on Sunday.

ABC reported Country Fire Authority's Nathan Snell said the young boy had done a "marvellous job" and avoided tragedy overnight.

The boy was alerted to the fire, which later engulfed and destroyed the home, by his nightlight going out due to smoke in the home.
