10am Saturday - Coffs, Bellingen, Nambucca weather update

RAINFALL recorded in Coffs Harbour in the 24 hours until 9am Saturday is drawing the February tally closer to the official record.

A total of 70.6mm fell, bringing this month's total to 433.8mm.

This is just 88.4mm behind the record of 522.2mm established in February 1985 and could be broken some time in the next 24 hours should predicted rainfall eventuate.

As Tropical Cyclone Marcia ventures into NSW territorial boundaries, a gale warning has been issued for Saturday and Sunday for the Coffs Coast.

Damaging winds around 65 km/h with peak gusts of 100 km/h are forecast for parts of the Northern Rivers and Mid North Coast forecast districts, most likely from Saturday afternoon and mainly near the coast.

Flood Watch

Further heavy falls are expected to redevelop over the NSW North Coast area during Saturday and early Sunday.

In addition, king high tides will add to the risk of flooding in the lower tidal areas.

At this stage there is a greater than 70% chance of further flooding in the following river valleys during Saturday and Sunday:

Clarence Valley - including the Orara River - minor flooding

Bellinger Valley - minor flooding

Nambucca Valley - minor flooding
