1000 in chase for new Kmart jobs

MORE than 1000 people have sent in their resumes hoping to be chosen for a job at a new Kmart store which will open at Centro Toormina in November.

Kmart Australia state human resources manager Deena Habib said the interest in 'auditioning' for employment resembled casting for television's Australian Idol with the hopefuls chasing an interview in early September.

Like the hit television program, those selected for interview will be divided in groups and asked to respond to tasks in front of a panel of Kmart 'observers'.

“We certainly have some great talent to choose from and we're looking for candidates with exceptional customer service skills and 'can-do' attitude,” said Deena said.

The much-anticipated Centro Toormina Kmart will be the only centre between Ballina and Forster and a major drawcard in the $43 million redeveloped centre.
