THE popular Coolum-based words@play open-mic, spoken-word group is taking its regular show on the road with an evening of comedy, song, performance poetry, theatre and stories. Enjoy a smorgasbord of entertainment and comedy with a variety of quirky, uplifting and rousing acts featuring the Coolum-based words@players performance poets and songwriters, singer Barry Charles, Nambour folk band The Karen Law Band, sound balladeer Herb Fenn, The Mindfulness Poet Brendan O'Shea, the upbeat ukelele queen Bright Cherry, Pomona's own Misfits, Bazza the Bush Balladeer, a short one-act play written by Wendy O'Hanlon, plus surprise performances and cameos including "Mr Poetry” Ian Mackay - and an emu.

THE Sunshine Coast Jazz Club welcomes back The Caxton Street Jazz Band for a Christmas special. Members of the band include some of Australia's leading jazz players as well as instrumentalists who are vocalists. While their roots are firmly planted in the hot jazz of the early 1900s, many other influences are represented including big-band swing, mainstream jazz, folk, country, rhythm 'n' blues and popular tunes from the 1930s, '40s and '50s. The line-up includes John Braben (trumpet), Paul Williams (clarinet and tenor sax), Tom Nicolson (trombone and vocal), Bernice Haydock (piano and vocal), Andrew Shaw (bass) and Dave McCallum (drums). As this is a Christmas special, guests are invited to dress in their 1920s costumes or special festive outfit.

JOIN the Sunshine Coast Symphony Orchestra for an evening of traditional, classical and fun music. Sing along with a medley of old favourites such as Jerusalem, Rule Britannia and Auld Lang Syne, Waltzing Matilda and the Elgarian Pomp and Circumstance. Take your flags, streamers and whistles, let your hair down and recall the traditions of the "old country”. The program is based on the British Proms concerts at the Albert Hall in London (but with an Australian flavour) and will include works by Elgar, Coates, Handel, Parry, and Henry Wood.
