COFFS Harbour SES is marshalling its resources to tackle a huge relief operation around the city.
A major storm struck at around 3.30pm bringing heavy rainfall and powerful winds that have left a trail of destruction across the area.
Trees have been toppled and are blocking roads with the worst reported incident coming from the Pacific Highway between Bananacoast Caravan Park and Pacific Bay Resort.
SES Senior Deputy Controller, Mark Wybon, said initial information has been received that a tree has fallen onto a motor vehicle but nothing had yet been heard about possible injuries.
A spokesperson at the Coffs Harbour Weather Station situated at the airport revealed 15.2mm had been recorded in a 10 minute period at the height of the storm.
Major power outages have been reported and emergency staff are now working to restore the service.
Warnings for motorists
MOTORISTS travelling on the Pacific Highway at Coffs Harbour are advised to expect delays due to fallen trees.
Emergency services and RMS traffic crews are responding to calls to clear streets and address issues of flash flooding.
Trees are blocking some side streets with the biggest believed to be in Rose Avenue and Moonee Street.
Several trees are down at Bananacoast Caravan Park but after initial fears there may be a major incident in the area with a tree falling across a car, witnesses have reported no injuries.
Power is gradually being restored to affected areas.
