THE Member for Clarence Chris Gulaptis has thrown his support behind flood-affected residents at Corindi.

Investigations into whether works on the Pacific Highway upgrade contributed to the Australia Day 'mini-tsunami' that swept through the suburb took a step forward this week as residents met with officials from Roads and Maritime Services (RMS).

During the meeting, attended also by Mr Gulaptis, residents had a chance to each tell their story to RMS officials and hear how investigations would progress.

Mr Gulaptis said he had personally informed the Minister for Roads, Duncan Gay, of residents' concerns and would be keeping a close eye on investigations.

"The Minister is aware of the situation and will be keeping a close watch on investigations," Mr Gulaptis said.

"The thing is that it's never happened like that before and the worry of residents is that the waters were very fast-moving. In those situations the real concern is the loss of life.

"We want to make sure we get a resolution and we get it quickly."

He said he would give residents his full support and act as a conduit between them and various government departments.

"It is important we get to the bottom of this to ensure it doesn't happen again."
