VALLA Beach surfer Heath Joske has steered Australia to a magnificent victory in China.

Competing in the inaugural ISA China Cup on Hainan Island, Joske won the individual men's title to ensure Team Australia also took out the Team's Gold Medal ahead of France.

After a slow start to the final, Joske powered home with an 8.17, a 7.33 and a 9.33 to finish with 17.50 ahead of the USA's former World Tour competitor Corey Lopez (12.33), France's Marc Lacomare (12.30) and fellow Australian Nic Muscroft (4.13).3

"So great to win the China Cup for Australia," a thrilled Joske said after winning the final.

"Surfing is usually an individual sport and to represent your country and win an event like this with team spirit and pride against a super strong field is fantastic."

The China adventure doesn't stop for the Valla surfer with the China Cup.

Tomorrow he hits the waves again for the ASP Hainan Classic.

"The waves have been great all week, we're all very familiar with the wave and it's meant to be even better for the Hainan Classic and I'm confident of a great result for sure," he said.
