TREVOR VEALE

DOVETAIL joints, contrasting grains and intricate woodturning defined the high standard of the School Woodworking Competition held by the Mid North Coast Woodworkers Inc., at Park Beach Plaza.

With involvement from nine schools across the Mid North Coast, Woodworkers Inc., members were impressed by this year’s increase in entrants and the calibre of work. Many of the creations were as good as anything club secretary Col South has ever seen.

“I make furniture, I’ve taught woodwork for 40 years, and on my best day I’d be struggling to match some of these!” he said.

Among the favourites were Woolgoolga High School student Jarrad Ward’s custom-built fish tank, which received a Special Commendation Award, and Senior Woodwork winner Jake Parker’s exceptional hallstand.
