Rider takes message to Aussies

JOHN Knox has a big plan.

The father of two has embarked on a solo bicycle tour of Australia to let other Aussies know how they can lower their carbon footprint.

Sick of politicians talking the talk but not walking the walk on climate change, Mr Knox is taking the issue into his own hands to spread the message about the consequences of climate change .

“As a parent, I want to protect my kids’ future and I see climate change as being the issue that will have the most effect upon them during their lifetimes,” Mr Knox said.

Mr Knox expects his tour across Australia to take around five months and, apart from a few bus trips across the sparsely populated areas of Australia, will be conducted entirely by bike.

“While my bicycle tour is allowing me to engage with as many communities and individuals in Australia as possible, PlanBig is helping me connect with individuals online and virtual communities.”

However, Mr Knox is not doing it completely alone. He’s taking on the latest challenge with the help of the next big thing online, PlanBig.

An initiative of the Bendigo and Adelaide Bank, PlanBig is a new website where anyone with a plan or an idea can access the resources and support to make their plan happen in the real world.

“Ride-the-Talk is all about raising awareness about the simple things people can do in their everyday lives that save energy.

“It’s about recognising that even as an individual, we can make a difference, especially if we come together with as a community, which is what PlanBig is all about.”

Mr Knox is using PlanBig to encourage people to sign his online petition, which implores the gov- ernment to take start taking climate change seriously.

He brings his talk to Coffs Harbour today at the Coffs Harbour Education Campus, O Block Theatre, Hogbin Drive, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. To find out more about PlanBig visit www.planbig.com.au.
