Family left heartbroken by thieves

A YOUNG Coffs Harbour family is still reeling after thieves cleaned them out on Tuesday.

You name it and the robbers took it, including a fishing rod which was a recent birthday present, a child’s scooter, beer and even food.

“We’re devastated,” said Amara Renaud-Coyle, who lives in Gundagai Street with her partner David Hurst and their large household.

“We’ve got five kids, we’re a big family, we work really hard and don’t have the money to replace what’s been taken.

“Whoever has done this has left a family heartbroken.”

The intruders seized their opportunity when the children were at school and the house was empty.

“My stepson went to get his scooter after school and couldn’t find it,” Ms Renaud-Coyle said.

“We didn’t think anything of it until David went to the shed fridge to get a beer and discovered two cartons of beer had been stolen.

“They also took an amplifier and seven fishing rods. We had purchased five of them only last week to replace the ones stolen from us about a year-and-a-half ago.

“They also carried off a bag full of fishing gear which my stepson had taken two years to save up for, along with half a freezer full of meat. One of the fishing rods was owned by my six-year-old boy Louis who got it as a gift for his sixth birthday on Saturday.”

Elsewhere, opportunistic thieves have pounced on two unlocked cars at Toormina.

Overnight on Monday they took a wallet and sunglasses from a white tipper truck in Nariah Crescent, and not far away stole a compact disc player and $10 in coins from a Nissan Navara ute.

How low can people possibly get? Because of things like this we really need to go back to the way we used to do things. When Thief's get court then there names should be published in the local paper. It would make them think twice before doing the wrong thing. In the moment even after they have been sentenced nobody knows who there where and they can still walk our streets with there head held up high as nobody knows who there are. And I believe that that is wrong.

I’ve said it before and I'll say it again; "another day in paradise and another heartless gutless act" why? Is living here so tough for the thieves that they need to take from others? This kind of behavior might be expected in areas of great poverty and drug addiction; but to do it here to a young family is truly shameful. If anyone knows anything about any of these crimes they should put the culprits in, it's not dobbing it's doing the right thing. cheerio
