Tree snaps off, driver walks away

A MAN, 18, walked away from a nasty smash in Coffs Harbour with only a sore neck.

Police said he was driving his red Holden Commodore in Earl Street at 9.50pm on Wednesday and was turning into Bonville Street when he lost control, left the road and slammed into a tree.

The impact snapped the tree from its base and extensively damaged the vehicle.

A passenger was also uninjured. The driver will be issued a ticket for negligent driving.

Elsewhere, a young motorbike rider was treated at hospital after an accident on Hogbin Drive on Wednesday morning.

Police said the 17-year-old slammed into the rear of a Mitsubishi Lancer which had slowed for traffic just south of Newports Creek at 8.40am.

The rider fell from his machine and sustained grazing to his right wrist and lower back pain.

A Nissan Pulsar driver accidentally hit the bike where it had come to rest and a Hyundai Excel then hit the back of the Pulsar.
