COFFS Harbour Senior College had to knock back some enrolments in science courses.
Acting Deputy Director David Bateman reported that the college was expanding classes and in some cases declining enrolments in maths and science.
“We are absolutely chock-a-block in science and maths,” Mr Bateman said.
Mr Bateman is looking at introducing another maths class to cater for demand despite the findings of Group of Eight’s (Go8) Review of Education in Mathematics, Data Science and Quantitative Disciplines released on Tuesday. The review has revealed a large drop in maths and science enrolments across Australia.
This year the senior college has 288 Year 11 students, 210 of those do a maths course and 166 study at least one science discipline. Of 161 Year 12 students, 109 study maths and 55 study science.
