Defactos in shop assault

A MAN was due in court yesterday over a violent attack which shocked shoppers in Coffs Harbour’s city centre.

Police said the 27-year-old was with his defacto wife, 23, in Harbour Drive at 4.20pm on Tuesday, when she was challenged by a female shop owner, 33, over her possession of alcohol outside the clothing shop.

The man became involved in the dispute when the woman dropped the bottle, as did the shopowner’s husband, 38, who was allegedly attacked and had his head slammed against a window.

The man and his defacto were seen walking east on Harbour Drive where they became involved in a domestic dispute and the woman was allegedly head-butted and knocked unconscious.

She was taken to Coffs Harbour Health Campus. The man allegedly fled and was later seen at the hospital and arrested.
