Building checklist

WHEN hiring a builder it is always a good start to ask any friends or associates for referrals.  If none are forthcoming drive around and take down the details of the builder of any new homes that you like.

When buying House & Land, venture into as many display homes and choose something that reflects your taste and style as well as your budget.

Here are some quick questions you should ask the builder.

  • Visit and ask for information on any completed or current jobs?
  • Ask for any references?
  • Ask for any project addresses?

 Once complete create a short list of builders to then give you a quote.

In terms of the quote make sure the builder includes not only a clear and detailed design but a detailed list of the inclusions such as fixtures and fittings.  It should be in a simple format that is easy to understand and includes the type of contract you plan to use.  This is important as it gives you clarity around comparing apples with apples.

Now that you have determined the builder you are going to use don't forget the following;

  • Are there any inclusions you need to add?
  • Are there any items you need removed?
  • Have you agreed on a schedule of costs for any future variations?

In conclusion you may get legal advice on the contract before signing which will give you peace of mind.
