Super Bowl hero loves Coffs Coast

HOLLYWOOD superstar Russell Crowe took a mate to the NRL footy clash in Coffs on Saturday night – and he went home talking about what a great night he had.

Family patriarch Alex Crowe revealed to The Coffs Coast Advocate Sunday that three-time Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl hero Michael Irvin attended the Souths v Titans game as Russell’s personal guest.

“Michael thought it was a delightful night and is full of praise for Australians,” said Alex.

“In America, nobody has a smile but at the footy in Coffs, everybody was showing interest and having a great time.”

Alex said Saturday night’s clash at BCU International Stadium was a superb event.

“It was the best promoted and best run game I’ve seen there and I’ve enjoyed a lot of great footy around town,” he said.

“The Souths team love Coffs Harbour and feel the community response is absolutely marvellous.”

Coffs Harbour police were also full of praise for fans’ behaviour at the game.

“There was no anti-social behaviour,” said Sgt Lee Thomas.

“Police would like to praise the crowd for their good behaviour and enjoying the spirit of the match.”

Organisers hired eight policemen to keep a watch over fans in the ground as well as two Aboriginal liaison officers.

In total, 32 security officers were employed at the event with only two men removed from the ground for what police described as ‘obnoxious behaviour’.
