Coffs, Sawtell, Orara sign on day

TOMORROW’S NRL trial between South Sydney and Gold Coast will provide a major shot in the arm for junior recruitment.

The Rabbitohs were swamped by young fans when they appeared on the Coffs Coast last week during the Community Carnival and were instrumental in a surge of registrations for the junior Woolgoolga Seahorses.

Now it’s the turn of Coffs Harbour Comets, Sawtell Panthers and Orara Valley Tomahawks to benefit this weekend.

The three clubs have combined forces to put on a joint registration day at BCU International Stadium starting from 2.00pm.

Organiser Jay Sakaio, of ARL Development, said the aim of the exercise will be making it easy for the new wave of football superstars to find a team.

“There will be a marquee set up for Coffs, Sawtell and Orara, so that players already intending to play in 2010 can put in their details,” he said.

“Another table will be set up to cover all of the other Group 2 clubs so that any child from within the Group can register on the day to play in the 2010 season.”

And there’s one more major incentive for the kids to sign up with their favourite footy team.

Every child who registers to play for any Group 2 club will be given free general admission into BCU International Stadium to watch the big match.

Mum and dad will still need to purchase their ticket.

“The kids will actually become part of the promotion and colour of the main game,” Sakaio said.

“Before the Rabbitohs and Titans run out, we’ll form our little Group 2 players up to form a guard of honour.

“They’ll be right on the spot and will be so close to the NRL players.”

Also, each child who registers on the day will go into the draw for a signed jersey.

There will be games, a jumping castle, face painting and South Sydney stars Roy Asatasi and Rhys Wesser will be present during the afternoon, with home grown Titans star Kevin Gordon rumoured to be making an appearance.

A fun $1 raffle during the rego afternoon will offer various prizes, there’s a free sausage sizzle, cheap soft drinks and water for everyone, while a special raffle will be sold at the entrance to the game with the winner to choose between framed, signed jerseys supplied by Gold Coast and Souths.
