Freestyle motocross star Michael ‘Chucky’ Norris was practising with local riders at Sandy Beach yesterday ahead of his appearance at the Coffs Harbour Stadium Motocross on January 23.

IT’S been 15 years since Coffs Harbour held our very own Stadium Motocross but 2010 is set to bring it back with a bang.

With just three weeks to go until the event hits the Coffs Harbour Showgrounds, preparations are full steam ahead for both organisers and riders.

Yesterday internationally-renowned freestyle rider Michael ‘Chucky’ Norris was honing his tricks at Sandy Beach ahead of his appearance in the freestyle demonstration at the event.

“I’m really excited about coming up to ride in Coffs,” he said.

“Smaller regional shows are more laid back and relaxed, not like Crusty Demons where everything is choreographed. You can just go out and have fun.”

He said he’ll be bringing his best tricks for Coffs audiences.

“Definitely tricks upside down. There’ll be back flips and tricks all over the bike, so make sure you all come and check it out.”

Local rider Jake Bowen will also be riding in the demonstration.

Coffs Harbour Motorcycle Club’s Donna Craig said everything is coming together nicely for the event, with some big names in motocross expected to make an appearance.

“We’ve got about 90 entries at the moment but we’re expecting a lot more in the week leading up to the event,” she said.

“We’ll have merchandise stalls, food and all those kinds of things. Gates open at 7.30am with practise starting at 10am, races at noon and they’ll go right through until about 10pm that night.”

The Coffs Harbour Stadium Motocross will be held at the Coffs Harbour Showgrounds on January 23.
