Urunga Bowling Club will throw the greens open to potential new players today.
URUNGA Bowling Club is looking to boost its player numbers at today’s recruitment drive.
Publicity officer Pat Chapman said the club is holding a free fun afternoon from 1.30pm to give people interested in having a go at lawn bowls an opportunity to try their hand.
“A similar afternoon had been arranged last November but was washed out,” she said.
“So we’re hoping for fine weather this time around and a good response from the public.
“Everybody is welcome.”
A relaxed afternoon is planned with absolutely no pressure and a free sausage sizzle will wind up proceedings from around 4pm.
Bowls will be provided, accredited coaches will be on hand to help and the only requirement is flat-soled shoes, or you can even go barefoot.
“No longer is the game of bowls regarded as the preserve of seniors as nowadays many of the top players in the world come from the younger generations,” Chapman added.
“Dress rules are being greatly relaxed and are, in fact, quite colourful for both men and women.
“The game is an ideal sport for mums who have kids at school with social games each Tuesday and Thursday from 9.30am, while the men play on Wednesday and Friday afternoons.
“Mixed bowls are played at weekends and twilight bowls during daylight saving caters for those in the work force and most importantly, it is a relatively inexpensive sport.”
Players who cannot attend today should contact Dorothy Boatfield on 6655 6789, Wendy Morrin on 6655 5560 or Warwick Fawbert on 6655 3842 to arrange another time for introduction to the sport.
