Test stars coming to Coffs Harbour

FORMER Australian Steve Rixon will be passing on tips to the young cricketers of Coffs Harbour when he heads up the coaching panel for Shaun Brown’s Country Cricket Camps in January.

“Steve is one the best junior coaches in the business and it’s fantastic that we have him on board again for this year’s camp,” Brown said.

Rixon is a former test wicket keeper for Australia and was later coach of the New Zealand National team.

He also had a stint in India as a Twenty20 coach for Chennai Superstars.

He will be joined by Dirk Wellham to form a first class coaching panel in this year’s Coffs Harbour camp.

Wellham, one of only two men to score hundreds on first-class and Test debut, was a very gifted young batsman and brilliant fielder thrust into the national team at 22

The camp will be held at Richardson Park on January 14 and 15.

“Our aim with the clinics is to provide an excellent learning experience for enthusiastic cricketers between the ages of six to 16,” Brown added.

“Our program covers all facets of cricket and is aimed at improving participant’s skills, knowledge and enjoyment of the game.”

Over the past 20 years thousands of participants have improved their skills in all aspects of the game at the regional camps.

“It’s fantastic to be able to involve former test stars in areas that normally don’t get that exposure,” said Brown who played all his junior cricket in regional Victoria.

All clinics feature the use of video analysis, a comprehensive program and written reports for all who attend this summer.
