Youth learn to make right choices

POOR choices by young drivers can have catastrophic consequences. That’s the message from Nambucca Heads highway patrol’s Sergeant Jarrod Langan.

STUDENTS from several Coffs Harbour high schools poured into the Southern Cross University, D Block Theatre yesterday to watch a possible accident scenario, in which all the students taking part had supposedly been drinking the night before.

POOR choices by young drivers can have catastrophic consequences.

That’s the message from Nambucca Heads highway patrol’s Sergeant Jarrod Langan, who is urging parents and children to attend a road trauma seminar next week.

He said the aim of the session, which will be held at the Nambucca Heads Entertainment Centre on Tuesday at 7pm, is to reduce road crashes involving young people.

“We have had a spate of road deaths in the Mid North Coast local area command where we’ve lost five people under the age of 25 in the past two months,” Sgt Langan said.

“A lot of the accidents that occurred arose from bad choices by young people.”

The evening will feature a graphic presentation by Senior Constable Jason Bentley from the Port Macquarie Crash Investigation Unit, Hunter Life Education, licensing police and local paramedics.

“The seminar will discuss drug and alcohol-related incidents and methods of reducing these and will raise awareness of actions and consequences in the decision-making process of a young person,” Sgt Langan said.

The Nambucca Valley Youth and Community Seminar will have free entry.
