The Wollongong City Raceway Jets are chasing a national title at Raleigh International Raceway on Saturday.
RALEIGH International Raceway will be hosting the ‘Grand Finale’ for the 2009 Powered by Honda ProKart Australia National, New South Wales and Queensland Endurance Kart Championships this Saturday.
The NSW and Queensland State champs may have been decided during the last round but the National Championship is far from decided.
The Wollongong City Raceway Jets in their number 3 kart have taken out the NSW title while the Adrenalin Rush Karting team have been crowned the champs of Queensland with their number 98 kart streeting the field.
Both now have their eyes on the grand national prize along with defending champions Team Kaos which carries the highly sought after number 1 plate on their kart.
This Saturday will be the second occasion that the ProKart Australia teams have competed at the Raleigh International Raceway circuit. Over the June Long Weekend earlier this year an ‘8 Hour’ race was held and it resulted in the Adrenalin Rush Karting team taking home the winning honours and they defeated Team Kaos and Wollongong City Raceway Jets in second and third place respectively on the podium – the same three teams that will be fighting it out for National Championship glory.
Although favoured to take out this weekend’s Raleigh 6 Hour event, there’s no shortage of competition from other teams to keep the favourites on their toes this Saturday.
The likes of Team 5051R (number 50), Walkos Shire Racing (21), Horsepower Racing (777), Team SBR (82), PDS Grand Prix (661), Adrenalin Rush Karting (86) may be out of contention for the big title but they’re hungry to finish their season on a winning note.
There are going to be close to 30 teams, consisting of two or three drivers that will be lining up to have a shot at winning the Raleigh 6 Hour.
Endurance Kart Racing consistently brings in plenty of race action and sees the switch of positions throughout the race due to drivers having to pit for driver changes and re-fuel.
The race action itself is also a test for the drivers themselves as they must drive for long periods at a time which will test their driving skills and also test each team with their preparation and team work.
Each team will take part in both practice and qualifying sessions from 8.00am and the ‘Raleigh 6 Hour’ race itself is set to start at 10.00am.
