Leeanda Angus is stunned after her Upper Orara home was hit by flooding for the second time in six months.
As knee-deep floodwaters ran through their Upper Orara house yesterday, for the second time in six months, Josh Brown and Leeanda Angus made the big call – they’re outta’ there.
Sandbags did little to stop the path of a swollen creek that spread out across one kilometre of paddock before landing on their doorstep.
In a tale of unbelievable hard luck, the young couple had their kitchen replaced last week in the wake of the March 31 floods.
“We have got to go through it all again, we don’t have power and we can’t clean up until the insurance assessor comes,” Leeanda said.
The young mother, who is expecting her second child, comforted their three year son Olly.
“He wanted to help so much drawing rainbows to make the rain stop; poor little guy he was traumatised by the first flood.”

When will the Council realize that we can't build in the many low lying areas we have. I see so many new estates that are Council approved but are in flood land. I think it's time that we are suing our Council for allowing it to happen. And why don't we allow houses on stills anymore, we had them for a long time and the work. It's just not right. Why don't we make our Councillors move in to those areas ???

The Coffs Harbour City Council has to bear a substantial amount of blame for approving development on FLOOD PRONE land.
Look at the site where the new hospital was constructed. During flood events the car park and lower floor FLOODS!
Only one access road in, which floods.
Housing estates which have been approved on sites which flood.
No storm water drainage provided to housing estates, such that each neighbours water flows into adjacent properties!
The list goes on and on.
The council needs to be held legally liable!
The information provided on their web site regarding local road closures was not posted on a timely basis.
Even Bellingen Shire Council provided their local road closures on their web site far ahead of Coffs City Council.
When queried, the response was that we are not a 24/7 organisation!
I suppose floods stop when the staff leave for the day and the lights are turned out.
Even when they did bother to update their web site there was no information regarding local roads around Sawtell/Toormina/roads in the city.
The only way to discover this information was to tune into the local ABC radio station.
One would assume that SOME lessons would have been learnt from the numerous floods which have occurred in the area this year in providing this information to residents.
SURELY THEY CAN DO BETTER!

i cant believe it, six months of the first flooding we had... here in where we live with my three children suffer but luckily the house is ok, the road were streaming with strong fast currents down our streets of kurrajong and most homes were just had the water up to their houses... thanks to the SES to supporting our street all night driving up and down keeping an eye on people for help with the floodings... i just hope that the government would support the coffs people as twice in 6 months is bad!!!!!

I am absolutely appalled at the lack of drainage both privately and commercially in and around Coffs Harbour. Very little thought has gone into this subject over the millenium and needs to be addressed with extreme urgency.
I have moved into a house north of Coffs with little or no drainage and to top it off a 50,000 litre pool with no outlet - HELLO!!!! Obviously this pool was approved by council???
Wake up Coffs Harbour Council.

perhaps all these houses and a lot of businesses should look at installing water tanks to catch some of this precious rain, easing some of the ammount trying to go down the drain and then going out to sea, easing the local supply when there is no rain even if it is just used to flush the toilet or water the garden or wash the car. perhaps also council facilities and caravan parks too could install tanks to.
