Qld urged to prepare for bushfiresWITH the climate creating dryer conditions once more in south-east Queensland, the threat of bushfires this season is very real.

FIREFIGHTERS continue to work on two fires that have been burning near Brooms Head and Gurranang since Wednesday.

A fire continues to burn in the area of Russell Road at Gurranang, 20km North West of Lawrence.

"Property protection was undertaken on a number of homes along Pringles Way, Tanglewood Rd, Summerland Way and Lawerence Road," a spokesperson for NSW Rural Fire Service said.

"Currently there are no properties under threat from fire."

The spokesperson said firefighters will continue to work across the day in identifying and constructing containment lines and residents in the area are advised that they may continue to experience smoke and embers and should ensure their home is properly prepared.

A Section 44 bush fire emergency was declared for the area yesterday afternoon meaning more resources are available for the fire fighting effort.

Meanwhile, firefighters from the NSW Rural Fire Service and the NSW Fire Brigades will continue to work behind properties around Brooms Head village, blacking out and mopping up.

A spokesperson for the RFS said conditions have eased and currently there are no properties under threat.

"The fire continues to burn uncontained to the west of Brooms Head and firefighters will concentrate on identifying containment lines this morning in an effort to bring the fire under control," the spokesperson said.

Weather conditions are expected to be more favourable on Thursday, which will assist firefighters in containing the fire.

Local road closures may be in place and the public is asked to stay away from the fire area for their own safety.
