LOCAL optometrists Michael Jones and Greg Russell helped transform lives Thursday.
Russell & Jones Optometrists marked World Sight Day by donating their eye examination fees to help the estimated 670 million men, women and children globally who are blind or vision impaired simply because they do not have access to an eye exam and a pair of glasses.
Optometry Giving Sight, the organiser of the World Sight Day challenge, funds the solution by supporting programs that offer eye exams and glasses, establish vision centres and train local eye-care professionals in communities with little or no access to eye-care services.
Michael said he was proud to join optometrists around the world in making a difference.
“The patients I see every day have a number of sophisticated vision-care services and vision-
correction options available to them, yet there are millions of people around the world who don't even have access to the basics.”
Michael and Greg invite their patients to make a donation at Russell & Jones Optometrists during October. The funds will be directed to projects in Sri Lanka, indigenous Australians, Southern Africa, East Timor, Latin America and Papua New Guinea.
