A TOORMINA 41-year-old is due in court this morning over an armed hold-up at a local petrol station.
Police allege the man entered the Caltex Service Station on Toormina Road, Toormina, at 7pm on Monday and produced a kitchen knife which he allegedly used to threaten the 67-year-old console operator.
He allegedly demanded cash and cigarettes which he took and then fled on foot from the premises into the night.
The traumatised employee, who was otherwise uninjured, raised the alarm and police swarmed on the scene soon after.
Their inquiries led them only 45 minutes later to a unit in nearby Wirrabilla Drive where they arrested the 41-year-old and seized cash, cigarettes and a knife.
The man was taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station, where he was interviewed and charged with armed robbery. He was refused bail to face Coffs Harbour Local Court today.
“Excellent work by police who attended the crime scene led to the identification and arrest of this alleged offender,” said Peter O’Reilly, the acting Coffs/Clarence police crime manager.
Mr O’Reilly said investigators did not believe this incident was linked to Sunday night’s armed hold-up at the Bushman’s Bakery at the Northside Shopping Centre in Park Beach. Investigations into that offence are ongoing.
