Toormina High School students get a taste of the music industry thanks to the Rock The Schools tour.
A ROCK concert at school sounds like a promise made by a student running for school captain - but that's exactly what took place at Toormina High School yesterday.
Rock band Stone Parade were on hand as part of the Boost Mobile Rock the Schools tour, which puts a completely new spin on music education.
Students got first-hand experience in a diverse range of careers within the music industry, from tour and band management, audio and lighting engineering, artists' representation and what it's really like to be in a band.
The students, mainly from the school's Year 11 and 12 Entertainment classes, helped 'bump in and bump out' (set up and put away) the touring group's half-a-million dollar sound/lighting and staging equipment and also had the opportunity to experience the organiser's stage lighting and desk system.
Stone Parade gave their setup a work out with a free concert during lunch.
Entertainment teacher Rob Mills said the students had a great time.
“Both the Rock the Schools professional team and Stone Parade rock group were very professional and really integrated with our students, giving them every opportunity to learn from industry professionals,” he said.
“We look forward to having the opportunity to work with this tour again.”
Boost Mobile Rock the Schools education workshops are run by education partner College of Creative Arts and Technology.
