Shark creek work bites into schedule

MOTORISTS may want to set their alarms 10 minutes earlier each morning for the next three months to accommodate delays if planning to use the Pacific Highway between Maclean and Ulmarra.

That's how long the RTA estimates it will take, weather permitting, to realign the highway after last month's slip at Shark Creek, when 50 metres of highway gave way to the river bank below.

The RTA geotechnical scientists have advised that a further slip is unlikely to occur at this location, however preventative slope stabilisation work will be carried out to avoid future slips in the area.

Traffic has also been reduced to one lane at another site, just north of this location, which was affected by a minor slip before the May flood.

The RTA is working to stabilise this site, along with carrying out general maintenance works along the Pacific Highway associated with flood damage. Traffic lights have been set up at both locations, adding just a few more minutes to the morning commute.

The RTA will continue to monitor the sites.
