LOCAL businesses will lose an estimated $100,000 due to the cancellation of this year's Coffs Coast Rally.

The rally, which was originally scheduled to take place in June, was postponed because of the damage to the roads caused by recent heavy rain.

The race was then cancelled because of concerns that there would be insufficient time to repair the roads in time for the rescheduled date.

More than 300 visitors were expected to attend the rally. The cancellation means that hotels, restaurants and shops across the Coffs Coast are set to miss out on three days of valuable extra custom.

Coffs Coast Council confirmed that they have applied for up to $700,000 State Government funding to promote the Coffs Coast and encourage tourists to return. Marketing manager Rob Cleary believes the funding could provide a much-needed boost to the local tourism industry.
