Many left stranded

VOLUNTEERS from the Adventist Development and Relief Agency worked through the night on Tuesday finding accommodation for stranded travellers and flooded-out residents.

ADRA volunteer Gwen Plant, who worked until 1am on Wednesday, said they had set up at 5pm on Tuesday at the Coffs Ex-Services Club and had found beds at motels and resorts for about 60 people who had nowhere to go by Wednesday morning, with others sleeping at the Coffs Ex-Services Club.

The organisation has the task of finding accommodation under the State's disaster relief plan, with the Coffs Harbour operation headed by Dr Alan Jones, who worked through the night with his wife Florence.

Family Day Care staff had to resort to standing on their desks as the water rose, said ADRA member Ross Willis.
