Council to discuss Russell Crowe's bushfire appeal

COFFS Harbour City Council will host a meeting this afternoon to discuss Russell Crowe's appeal for infrastructure funding for Victorian communities.

Coffs Harbour Airport manager Dennis Martin said on Saturday the council would like to see as many people as possible at the meeting, where a lot more information about the fund would be available. The appeal, hinted at during last Thursday's council meeting by Coffs Harbour mayor Keith Rhoades and announced on Thursday night by Russell Crowe during the Channel 9 Telethon, will receive the $10,000 of bushfire appeal funding voted by the councillors at last week's Coffs Harbour City Council meeting.

• WOOLGOOLGA Lions Club has donated $15,000 to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal. President Rex Meskell and Secretary Darryl Morris said the money would go to the Lions Australian foundation to be distributed through Lions clubs in the affected areas.

• GEOFF Smith, the organiser of the Victoria Bushfire Appeal sale at Palms Shopping on Friday and Saturday, said he had now received vouchers for accommodation at Opal Cove Resort, pillows, blankets and promises of other goods to add to the fruit, vegetables and plants he has already gathered for the two-day fund- raising sale.

• SUE Wood and Jan Brown, who launched a T-shirt drive, say they have been 'blown away' by the response, with close to 500 shirts of all sizes donated. Phone 6658 0449.
