Good news for Bellingen

AFTER an incredibly stressful week representing the interests of 25 families affected by the postponement of Eucalytpus, spokeswoman for the Home Owners of Bellingen Affected by Eucalyptus (HOOBABE), Catherine Campbell, can finally relax.

"As a result of negotiations with Gum Tree Productions for compensation, we now have a satisfactory result," a relieved Ms Campbell said.

"We appreciate that large organisations such as Fox Studios have considered the inconvenience experienced by some residents of a small country town on the other side of the world.

"We would especially like to thank Uberto Passolini (one of the film's producers) for his concern for our situation."

Ms Campbell said the experience of negotiating with a large company like Fox had certainly been an 'accelerated learning curve'.

Accommodation providers in Bellingen are also out of pocket following the stalling of the production. Their spokesman, Greg Warburton of Promised Land Cottages, said they were currently or- ganising their settlement.
